Muriel J. Klemetson, age 89, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, MN.
Muriel Janice, the daughter of Arthur and Gina (Syverson) Hansen, was born on April 15, 1934, at home east of Ulen, MN. Muriel was baptized and later confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, where she held her lifelong membership. After graduating from Ulen High School in 1952, Muriel graduated from Concordia College with a teaching degree. She helped many children learn, as she taught as a kindergarten teacher for many years. She proudly taught at Jefferson Elementary in Fargo, ND, and then schools in Felton, Twin Valley, and Ulen, MN. On February 12, 1955, Muriel was united in marriage to Justin Klemetson at Bethlehem. After Justin and Muriel got married, they bought her parents' farm, near Ulen. In 1963, they purchased a farm in Walworth township, east of Ulen, where they raised their children. In 2015, Justin and Muriel moved from the farm and into the Northern Lights apartments in Ulen.
Muriel was a devoted wife and mother. She was an avid seamstress and often made clothing for her girls. She not only sewed, but also quilted and crocheted. With busy hands, Muriel also spent many hours painting, rosemaling, and doing ceramics. She loved artwork and made many treasured gifts for family and friends. Muriel was active with the Bethlehem Church circle, quilting and WELCA, Walworth Homemakers club and Northern Lights Art Guild. The family loved spending time at their cabin on White Earth Lake. Muriel was especially fond of their excursions to Norway, Hawaii, Arizona and the many girls' trips they took together. She was passionate about music and was a gifted pianist. Muriel taught piano to area students for 25 years and served as an accompanist for musicals and the church choir. She was an avid supporter of the Top Hat Theater and current sporting events. In addition to her love of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, Muriel watched nearly all the Ulen Hitterdal Spartans and NCE-UH Titans school sports. If not there in person, she would have the TV, radio, or the webcast streaming to view the game. During each game, Muriel tracked the players, especially her grandchildren, and kept meticulous statistics for Ulen Hitterdal for many years. For her team spirit, Muriel was the proud recipient of the Spartan Booster Award. After Justin's death in 2018, Muriel continued to stay busy. She was always ready for an adventure, a game of cards, or a quiet conversation. Above all, Muriel cherished her faith and her family. May her legacy of love live on through the lives of her children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many generations to come.
Muriel is survived by one son, Bob (Stacy) Klemetson of Ulen, MN; four daughters: Susan (Lonnie) Anderson of Ogema, MN, Karen (Leon) Andersen of Fargo, ND, Janet (Brian) Maesse of Ulen, and Jenny (Cris) Anderson of Hitterdal, MN; 13 grandchildren: Kristin (William) Johnson, Luke (MeLissa) Anderson, Lindsay (Zach) Ernst, Jon (Jen) Erdahl, Karissa Andersen (Austin Erickson), Jacob Andersen (Ophelia Brewer) , Griffin Maesse, Tate Maesse, Lydia Klemetson, Treyton Klemetson, Reed Klemetson, Justin Anderson, Alissa Anderson; 10 great grandchildren: Zaria, Isaiah, Jupiter, Lila Jet , Samantha, Abigail, Tobias, Emma, Levi, and Owen; one sister, Janine Mattson of Eagan, MN; three sisters-in-law: Irene Klemetson of Ulen, Ardith Fuglie of Sun City, AZ, and Orpha (Gene) Schultz of Ulen; and many nieces and nephews.
