Muriel Harriet
Aanenson
Aug 26, 1925 — Mar 15, 2018
Bejou
Muriel Aanenson, age 92, of Bejou, MN, died Thursday, March 15, 2018 at First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, MN.
Muriel Harriet, the daughter of Harry and Manda (Windum) Carlson, was born on August 26, 1925, in Sundal Township, rural Fertile, MN. She grew up on the family farm and attended country grade school. Muriel attended school in Gary, MN, until as a teenager, she was needed at home to help care for her younger siblings. On December 16, 1943, Muriel was united in marriage to Sidney Aanenson. The couple moved around the Fertile and Sundal area before purchasing a farm of their own near Bejou, MN. Along with farming and raising her family, Muriel also worked as a cook at the Gorilla Café in Winger, MN, and helped area neighbors with the annual potato harvest. The highlight of her working career was her employment at Bergeson Nursery, where she tended to seedlings and flowers for many years. In 1996, they sold their dairy cattle and unofficially retired. Following Sid's death in 2011, Muriel remained on the farm until the age of 92. She recently entered the Fosston First Care Nursing Home following a short illness.
Muriel was a lifelong member of Sundal Lutheran Church, where she was active in the circle group and ladies aide for many years. She was an avid cook and was well known for her lefse, potato dumplings, and flat bread. Her family always loved grandma's treats and the smell of her fresh baked buns. Muriel enjoyed sewing and spent many years doing needlework. More recently, Muriel could be found sitting at the dining room table quietly completing her word search puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, Selmer "Sam" of Bejou, and Stanley (Linda) of Fertile; two daughters, Barb Iverson of Winger, and Linda (Leonard) Engen of Gary; nine grandchildren: Rhonda, Wayne, Tami, Bonnie, Byron, Aaron, Kim, Stacy, and Kelly; 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney; a son-in-law, Ernest Iverson; two grandchildren, Jamie and Shelly; one great-grandson, Andrew; one sister, Bernadine; four brothers: Perley, Dale, Walter, and Johnny; and three infant siblings.
