Obituary

Minna Gomall, age 95, of Twin Valley, MN, formerly of Waubun, MN, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley.

Minna Erna Merkins, daughter of John and Amanda (Treichel) Merkins, was born on March 4, 1917 in Ada, MN. She grew up there and graduated from Ada High School. As a young woman, she helped on the family farm and worked for area neighbors. On November 30, 1937 Minna was united in marriage to Walter Gomall and the couple made their home on a farm near Waubun, MN. For many years, she was a busy farmwife doing chores and raising her children. In the mid 1950's, Minna became a waitress at the Red Apple Café and later worked at the dime store in Mahnomen. She then was employed at the Coast to Coast store in Mahnomen where she faithfully worked until her retirement in the 1990's. Following Walter's death in April of 1995, Minna continued to live in Waubun until 2001 when she moved to Twin Valley to make her home.

Minna was a member of the Ogema VFW auxiliary unit # 9880. In her younger years, she enjoyed being outdoors and often had a large garden. Minna was very involved in Lake Grove Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also loved to quilt and was active with the Mission Quilters group providing warmth to many people in need.

She is survived by three sons: Delmar (Norma) of Cedar, MN, Bill (Kathy) and John all of Waubun; one daughter, Betty Gomall of Shoreview, MN; six grandchildren: Carmen (Jim) Near of Absaraka, ND, Jeffrey Gomall of Coon Rapids, MN, Kim Wilkinson of Carson City, NV, Jodi (Paul) Ahles of Detroit Lakes, MN, Karen (Ryan) Groth of Ogema, MN, and Margo (Matt) Jensen of Ogema; 15 great grandchildren: Dan, Molly, Elijah, Alex, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Joseph, Allison, Madison, Jessica, Taelyn, Kade, Hoyt, Avery, and Reid; two great great grandchildren: Jasper and Ryland; and one sister-in-law, Harriet Merkins.

Minna is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; daughter, DeLoris Swerman; and siblings: Myrtle Pinske, Anna Nelson, Esther Visser, Clara Hellerud, John Lawrence Merkins, and Ada Werpy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Lake Grove Lutheran Church in rural Waubun. Visitation will from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Interment will be at Lake Grove Lutheran Cemetery, rural Waubun, MN.
