Mildred Wentner, 94, Fertile, MN, died on December 26, 2012, at McIntosh Senior Living, McIntosh, MN. Mildred Pauline Wentner was born December 2, 1918 to Peder and Marie (Olsen) Kindseth near Faith in Norman County. She was baptized and confirmed at St.Olaf Lutheran Church and attended Marsh Creek Country School and Mahnomen High School.
Mildred lived in Minneapolis for a number of years, where she worked at the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Board of Education. During World War II she was employed by the FBI in Washington D.C. In 1951, she joined the U.S. State Department Foreign Service. Prior to departure for her first overseas assignment, she attended orientation and training at the Foreign Service Institute in Washington D.C.
Millie served as a Foreign Service Staff Officer in the American Embassies in Helsinki, Finland; Ankara, Turkey; Vienna, Austria; Taiz and Sanaa, Yemen; Oslo, Norway; Amman, Jordan; and Tehran, Iran. Summers were spent in London and Paris. Millie was an active member of churches in the various countries in which she lived, including the American Lutheran Church in Oslo and the Church of the Pilgrims in Washington D.C. In the other countries she was a member of nondenominational or interdenominational churches. While living in the Middle East, Millie developed a great interest in Biblical and ancient history, and she became an active member of the Jordanian Friends of Archaeology Society.
Upon moving to Fertile, Millie joined Concordia Lutheran Church and was active in the WELCA circles and committees. She was a member of the Study Club for 19 years. Her interest in international issues continued following her retirement, and she remained a member of the American Foreign Service Association.
Millie passed away December 26, 2012 at McIntosh Senior Living where she received excellent care. She was preceded in death by her sister Olga (2005) and brother-in-law, Herbert Sulerud (1990); and her nephew, Jerome Sulerud (1967).
She is survived by her nephew, David (Dianna) Sulerud, Green Valley, Arizona; two nieces, Sylvia Sabri and Janice Sulerud, Minneapolis; great-niece, Nadia Sabri, San Diego, California; and great-nephew, Zachary (Shelley) Sabri, Saint Paul, Minnesota; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 11 am in the Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation will be one hour before the services in the church.

Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
