Obituary

Mildred Sagen, age 95, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Monday, May 10, 2010 in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.

Mildred Luella Opsahl was born March 13, 1915 at the home of her grandparents, John and Mary Evenson near Syre, Minnesota. She was the first daughter of Lewis and Mabel (Evenson) Opsahl. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mildred attended Sandy Lane rural school near Syre and later the public school at Twin Valley. Mildred was united in marriage to Gerhard Sagen on October 20, 1938. The couple resided in Twin Valley. She worked for the United States Post Office and N.H. Berg Store. On November 22, 1947 a son, Gerald was born. They moved to Audubon, Minnesota in 1948. Gerhard passed away in February of 1980.

Mildred was employed at JC Pennys and Schaffers & O'Meara's Ladies Clothing stores in Detroit Lakes for several years and retired in 1980 from Audubon Public School after working there for many years. In October of 1987, Mildred was united in marriage to Al Roe of Fargo. Al passed away in May of 1997. Mildred was very active in the life of First Lutheran Church in Audubon. She served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, held several offices in the women's organization and held officer positions in the church council. Mildred was also active in the Becker County Council on Aging, serving in officer positions. After 50 years, Mildred returned to Twin Valley to live in the Normandy Apartments and became a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Mildred is survived by one son, Gerald (Nadine) Sagen of Sartell, MN; one grandchild, Andrea (Syed) Hasan of Little Canada, MN; two foster grandchildren, Jennie Stokes and Ann Hansen; one brother, Eldred (Norma) Opsahl of Twin Valley; one sister, Lorraine Jacobson of Fargo, ND; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, grandson, Geoffery Sagen and sister, Evelyn Albertson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Officiating will be Pastor Charles Bade with Danette Gwin serving as organist and Matt Miller serving as vocalist.

Inurnment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Audubon, Minnesota.
