Mildred Julia Stene, 89, Ada, MN, died on December 24, 2014, at the Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN. She was born on October 23, 1925, to Theodore and Albertina (Opgrande) Aanenson at home in Anthony Township, Norman County. Millie was baptized and confirmed at the East Marsh River Lutheran Church, Anthony. She attended District 103 Country School near her home. Following her schooling, Millie worked on the farm and in the Halstad and Ada area. Millie worked and managed the Green Lantern Restaurant, in Ada, with her sister, Gladys in the 1950's.
On March 23, 1957, Millie was united in marriage to Adolph Stene at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada. They lived in the rural Halstad area until 1969, when they moved to Ada. She worked at various jobs before being employed at the Ada Hospital as a cook in the early 1970's. Millie worked there until retiring in 1990. Adolph died on June 26, 1999, and Millie entered the Benedictine Care Community in 2011.
A smile greeted everyone Millie met. Her uplifting spirit was contagious and she always wanted to know all about the person she met. Making fantastic donuts, lefse, and white sugar cookies kept her busy and other's smiling. The Senior Citizens Center was a joy and great time for Millie to visit with family and friends. In all that Millie did, she had family in mind. As a family they gathered at one another's homes often to celebrate an occasion or just to be in each other's presence.

Millie is survived by two daughters, Lisa (James) Moen, Brooklyn Park, MN; and Linda (Rick) Bollaert, Chaska, MN; a son, David Allen Stene, Ada; two granddaughters: Lauren and Taylar Bollaert; one brother, Allen (Virginia) Aanenson, Ada, MN; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers: Norman, Arthur, Tennie, and Elmer, and one sister, Gladys Renfrew.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at 11 AM in the Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 29, 2014, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM in the Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Burial will be in the Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
