Obituary

Mildred Anne Daly, 96 of Mahnomen, MN, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Twin Valley Living Center.


Mildred was born January 2, 1913 in Fairfax, MN, to Joseph and Mary (Bastian) Bruggeman. She attended country school until 8th grade, then left school to work. Mildred left Minnesota with girlfriends to work in the shipyards in California as part of the war relief. There she met Thomas Vincent Daly and they later married on February 15, 1943 in Oakland, CA. Mary, their only child, was born July 15, 1944 . In 1945, after her mother passed away, Mildred moved her family to Mahnomen to help care for her father and younger siblings.


Mildred held numerous jobs in Mahnomen, most notably as secretary and later manager of the Mahnomen County ASCS office. In 1962, Mildred and Tom moved to Moorhead. She worked at the courthouse in both the Assessors and Engineers Offices. Thomas and Mildred retired to Mahnomen in 1979 to be closer to family.


Millie was an avid golfer, playing frequently at the Hawley and Mahnomen courses. In addition, she was a longtime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She loved to play cards, including Ladies Bridge. Millie loved to cook, entertain family and friends, enjoyed an occasional glass of brandy or wine, and made the world's best apple pies. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent many precious moments with them.


Mildred moved to the Twin Valley Nursing Home in 2002 where she resided until her passing.


Mildred is survived by her daughter, Mary (Marvin) Staska, Mahnomen; four granddaughters: Paula (Scott) Nelson, New Prague, MN, Michelle (Mark) Trnka, Mahnomen, Melanie (Kent) Bauman Willmar, MN, and Jennifer (Steven) Kahlbaugh, Mahnomen and 10 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 10 siblings, and one granddaughter Pamela .


Funeral Services will take place on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael 's Catholic Church, Mahnomen. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at Anderson ~ Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.
