Mildred Busse, 92, Halstad, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.

Mildred Ellen Dale was born August 6, 1925 at Climax, MN, the fourth of 5 children born to Helmer and Betsy (Hanson) Dale.  She was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in 1939. She attended schools at Nielsville and Climax, graduating from Climax in 1943.  She also attended Concordia College, Moorhead, MN and St. Lukes School of Nursing, Fargo, ND.

Mildred married Howard Busse on October 6, 1946, at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Nielsville, MN. After their marriage, they lived in Ada while having their house built in Halstad.  They moved to their new home in 1949.

Howard died March 26, 1959, after a long battle with cancer.  They had one son, John Howard Busse.  Mildred was employed as the first bookkeeper for the Halstad Telephone Company from 1950 to 1956.  She was employed by the United States Postal Services in Halstad and Fargo, ND for 27 years, retiring in 1985.

Traveling was her favorite interest and she traveled extensively to England, France, Germany, Norway, Finland, Netherlands, all 50 states, Nova Scotia, Bahamas, Canada and Mexico.

She was a member of the Halstad Lutheran Church, served on Church council, and was active in the Lutheran Church Woman where she held many offices.  She was also a member of the Halstad Sons of Norway, Town and County Study Club serving as president for many years, served as a volunteer at Halstad Library Link, was a member of the Halstad Legion Auxiliary where she served in local, district and state offices, Halstad Living Center Auxiliary, M.A.D.D., American Lung Association, Norman County Historical Society, Birthday Club, a bell ringer for the Salvation Army and organized the drivers safety program for 55 Alive.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers: Gordon, Ralph and Helmer Dale, her sister: Grace Broden, and a great grandchild, Kalis.

She is survived by her son, John (Maxine) Busse, Bismarck, ND, and three step-grandchildren: Kyle Burdine of Elk River, MN, Elsabeth Burns, and Ethan (fiancé-Kersten) Burns of Bismarck, three step great grandchildren, Brock, Ryder, and Cole.

Funeral: 11:00AM, Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the funeral at the church.

Burial: Halstad North Cemetery, Halstad, MN.
