Michael John Thronson, age 30, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Michael, the son of David and Rita (Alexander) Thronson, was born on March 12, 1984, a healthy happy baby boy. He was baptized at Faith United Church in Ada in April of 1984. On September 24, 1986, he fell ill to Spinal Meningitis. Michael's life would be forever changed with both physical and mental disabilities. He was able to return home with his family on December 24, 1986. He remained at home until the age of 18, when he went to live at the Barbara VanOfferen Foster Care Home in Detroit Lakes. While there, Michael received wonderful care until the time of his death.

Michael loved the sunshine! He especially liked going for car rides and camping at Itasca State Park. Michael always looked forward to a visit from his parents every Monday night. Michael's life was touched by so many wonderful caregivers throughout his life in Mahnomen and Detroit Lakes. Their kindness will be cherished forever.

Every time the sun shines, we will feel Michael's love and warmth upon us. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Michael is survived by his parents, Rita and David Thronson of Gary, MN; three brothers: Chris (Christine Sakrismo) of Bemidji, MN, Casey (Cassie) of Red Lake Falls, MN, and Andrew (Kayla Korsgaden) of Valley City, ND; a niece, Lily and nephews, Thoren and Abel; his grandmothers: Ardelle Thronson of Gary, and Doris Alexander of Ada, MN; aunts and uncles: Jane and Randy Skalsky, Mary Gnadt, Glen and Deb Alexander, Dean Alexander, Barb and Gary Kjono, Lynette Prestegaard, Byron and Lori Thronson, Bradley and Elena Thronson, Dalen and Bindy Thronson, Kim Jensen and Arnie Campbell; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joshua; his grandfathers, Burton Thronson and Jesse Alexander; an aunt and uncle, Shirley and Bud Jensen; and two cousins, Blake Thronson and Jake Alexander.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 28, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, in Mahnomen with Pastor Gary Lundberg officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Thronson, Casey Thronson, Andrew Thronson, Byron Thronson, Bryan Thronson, and Barent Thronson. Honorary bearers will be Michael's niece and nephews: Thoren, Lily and Abel and his caregivers, Barb VanOfferen, Bob Sandman, as well as all of his previous caregivers. Visitation will be Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen.

Interment will be held at St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, Gary, MN.
