Michael Schaumburg, 54, of Bejou, MN, died Friday, February 27, 2015, at Sanford Health Systems, Fargo, ND.
Michael Wayne was born in Fosston, MN, on October 2, 1960, to John and Dorothy (Crandall) Schaumburg. He grew up near Beaulieu, MN, and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1979. Following graduation, Mike entered the United States Army. He served as a hand grenade expert and was honorably discharged in December of 1984. He returned to Minnesota and lived and worked in Detroit Lakes, MN. He furthered his education at the Vo-tech in Detroit Lakes and finished with a degree in carpentry from MSU-Crookston. While attending college he met Laura Jensen. Mike and Laura were united in marriage and would be blessed with five children. They were later divorced in 2001.
Over the years, Mike lived and worked construction in Crookston and Mahnomen before settling in Bejou. He married Sandra Dahl in 2011 and they made their home together in Bejou. The past couple years his declining health forced him to give up working in construction, a job he loved. Mike was very proud of what he made and was a good finish carpenter. He had a great eye for those details.
In addition to his love for woodworking, Mike also enjoyed the great outdoors. He liked fishing, hunting, camping and simply mowing the lawn. Every year, he planted both vegetable and flower gardens and adored their beauty plus watching all the birds, especially the hummingbirds. He loved dancing, time spent with family and Polka Music. He had a special place in his heart for kids and for many years, he played Santa at the VFW in Bejou.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sandy, Bejou; two sons, Wayne, Fairbault, MN, and Luke, Winger; three daughters: Jennifer Schuamburg, Crookston, Mary Jo Schaumburg, Mahnomen, and Samantha (Theodore) Dibblee, Bejou; eight grandchildren: Deja, Tristan, Keagan, Jackson, Ava, Tyra, Isabella, Cory and Damian; three brothers: Richard " Butch" (Elaine), Bemidji, Rodney (Gwen), Plymouth, and Mark (Jane), Thief River Falls, MN; two sisters, Pat (Jim) Todahl, Fertile, MN, and Susan (Ron) Thorsrud, Twin Valley, MN; several nieces and nephews and all of Sandy's family. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Dale; niece, JoAnn Marie Schaumburg; and brother-in-law, Allan Matson.
