Michael "Mike" Roy, age 58, of Naytahwaush, MN, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 4, 2020, at his home.

Michael Joseph Roy was born on May 15, 1961, the son of Donald Roy and Ardyce (Londo) McCradie in Mahnomen, MN. As a child, he grew up in Naytahwaush, attending school at Naytahwaush Elementary followed by Mahnomen and Cass Valley North High School. In 1978, Mike joined the United States Army and attended basic training at Fort Dix, NJ, and AIT training at Fort Jackson, SC, before being stationed in Korea. After being honorably discharged from the military, Mike met Debra Bush and the couple raised their children Corey, Mike, Shaun, Travis, Kay, and James in Dilworth, MN, before moving back to Naytahwaush. Mike was employed at the school as a cook, the Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls, MN, as a supervisor in the restaurant, and also as a cook in the buffet at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen. In addition, he worked other odd jobs over the years to support his family. Mike was a fun loving, outgoing person who enjoyed people. His true passion was his family. He especially delighted in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mike was a jokester and often known to play pranks. His nieces and nephews affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Scary" and they enjoyed every moment spent with him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike had a genuine appreciation of the outdoors and enjoyed spending quiet time in the solace of the woods. He would then turn what he found in nature into beautiful works of art like diamond willow canes and his harvest of cranberry bark. Many hours were also spent ricing with his brother, DC, and other friends and family. His last night was spent in true Mike fashion, doing what he loved. He and his daughter, Kay, and granddaughter, Neveah, spent the evening together with snacks and good movies.  He peacefully went to sleep, leaving behind yet another night of happy memories the family will forever cherish along with the comfort of knowing he is in heaven with his mother, Ardyce, and other family.

Mike is survived by four sons: Michael "Beez" Bush, Shawn (Shauna) Bush, Travis (Sara) Roy and James Roy; one daughter, Kay Roy; 20 grandchildren plus one on the way; one brother, Donald "DC" Roy; four sisters: Lorelei Morales, Beth (David) Burnette, Danette McCradie, and Rebecca McCradie; brothers and sister-in-law: Joseph "Bio" Bush, Terry Bush, Jerry Bush and Sandy "Gus" Paul; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ardyce; stepfather, Dan McCradie; grandparents; companion, Debra Bush; son, Corey Bush; brother-in-law, William "Willie" Morales Jr; and many aunts, uncles, and extended family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Naytahwaush, MN. Burial and Military Honors will take place at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery.
