Obituary

Michael Accobee Sr., age 56, of Waubun, MN died on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at his home in Waubun.

Michael Wayne Accobee was born August 13, 1964, in Mahnomen, MN, the son of Georgina Wadena and John Burnette.  During his adolescent years, the family moved around often so he attended grade school in Washington State, Naytahwaush, MN, and Minneapolis, MN.  His high school years would be spent closer to home and he graduated from Circle of Life Academy in White Earth, MN.   Following high school, Mike attended the Vo-Tech in Detroit Lakes where he received his carpentry certificate.  He then joined the Minnesota National Guard and the following year transitioned to the United States Army. Mike met Elizabeth Mayberry and they were married in 1985. They made their home together in Ft. Sill, OK, where Mike was stationed during his enlistment.  Following an honorable discharge, they returned to the White Earth Reservation, where he has made his home since.   Over the years, Mike worked at the Shooting Star Casino in various positions but enjoyed bartending and dealing Blackjack the most.  He even dealt blackjack at other casinos in Walker and Las Vegas.  Most recently, Mike's declining health forced him into early retirement, and he was a stay-at-home grandpa helping with his grandchildren whenever he could.  Precious times he so looked forward to.

Mike had an outgoing personality that lent itself well to meet new people and to be able to visit with anyone.  He really enjoyed socializing, making people laugh and being around people, especially his close friends and family.  Mike loved spending time in the great outdoors and taking in the things it had to offer like hunting, fishing, ricing and leeching.  He also enjoyed traveling and taking road trips!  Mike was a member of the White Earth Veterans Honor Guard and worked at the Vets Center in Mahnomen for some time.  He will be greatly missed by many.

Mike is survived by his children: Michael (Jessica Jackson) Accobee Jr. of Ogema, MN, Whitney (TJ Sazama) Accobee of Dent, MN, Skyler (Brett Frederick) Accobee of Naytahwaush, Eliza (Nathan) Kieselhorst of Detroit Lakes, Ellora Accobee of Waubun and John Accobee of Ada, MN; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Alrick (Kitty) Accobee of Naytahwaush and Dale Accobee of Ogema, MN; one sister, Diane (Darwin) Shaugabay also of Naytahwaush and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; one brother, George Accobee; and one sister, Jean Accobee.
