Mervin Carlsrud, 82, Dilworth, MN, formerly of Borup, MN, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at is home under the care of his family and hospice.

Mervin was born at home on November 1, 1935, to Melvin and Gilma (Kjella) Carlsrud in Waukon Township, rural Gary, MN. He graduated from Gary High School in 1953. Mervin joined the United States Army two years after graduation and served for three years in Germany. He was proud to serve his country and being a tank driver. After his honorable discharge in 1958, he started working for Herman Lee (Lee Seed Farm) near Borup.  After Mervin's dad passed away he moved his mom and siblings to Borup, where he helped his mother care for the family.

Mervin married Lois Fetting on August 27, 1969, in Watertown, SD. They made their home in rural Borup, where they raised their five children together.  Mervin had many stories to tell. He enjoyed telling his stories about Gary, Borup, and the days he spent farming.  Mervin had a strong work ethic. He spent many hours in the tractor and was a skillful mechanic. He was well known for operating a Steiger tractor. He worked with Lee's for over 50 years until he retired in January of 2008, when he was 72 years old.

After retirement Mervin spent time woodworking in his shop. He built plant stands for all the girls in the family. He also restored a 1946 International truck; a project he was very proud of.  He loved being at home and spending time in his yard. Mervin was a member of Winchester Lutheran Church and the cemetery sexton for many years. He was also a member of the Ada American Legion Post. In July of 2017, Mervin and Lois sold their farm and moved to Dilworth.

Mervin is survived by his wife, Lois, his children, Scott (Jen) Carlsrud, Mukilteo, WA, Todd (Annette) Carlsrud, Brandon, FL, Kristi (Scott) DeLong, Alexandria, MN, Mike (Carrie) Carlsrud, Evansville, MN, and Matt (Amanda) Carlsrud, Moorhead, MN, 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and his siblings, Patty (Willie) Law, Finley, ND, Kenneth Carlsrud, Winder, GA, Arnie (Arlene) Carlsrud, Twin Valley, MN, Glady (Roy) Allrich, Andover, MN, Gordy (Janice) Carlsrud, Borup, MN, Linda Osterman, New Ulm, MN, and Wes (Diane) Carlsrud, Ada, MN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Karen Carlsrud, and a nephew.

Funeral: 11:00AM Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN.

Visitation: Monday, July 30 ^th from 5:00-7:00PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30PM at the Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada, MN

Burial: Winchester Lutheran Cemetery, Borup, MN.
