Obituary

Merine Vigum, age 92, of Twin Valley, MN, died Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.

Merine Verna Gorder was born June 25, 1923, the daughter of Oscar and Clara (Haugen) Gorder on the Gorder family farm near Gary, MN, where she grew up. As a young woman, Merine worked on the farm during the war years with her Dad. While on the farm, she had two favorite horses ~ Fleet and Barney.

On November 7, 1953, Merine was united in marriage to Oscar Vigum at Ness Lutheran Church near Gary. The couple made their home on the Vigum farm where they farmed together until Oscar died in 1974. Merine remained on the farm but went to work at the Lutheran Memorial Homes, later called Twin Valley Nursing Home, for over 30 years as a dietary aid. She moved into Twin Valley in 1994 and in 2011, made the Twin Valley Living Center her home.

Merine was an active member of Ness Lutheran Church and later, Wild Rice Lutheran Church. Over the years, she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and was active in circle and the ladies aid. Merine loved to bake and was known for her doughnuts and cookies. She especially loved cooking for the holidays and always looked forward to family gatherings when everyone could be together.

Merine is survived by a son, Michael (Nancy) Vigum of Twin Valley, MN; daughters, Deborah (Lowell) Bromander of Golden Valley, MN, and Diane (Ronald) Hasbrouck of Crystal, MN; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Noss of East Grand Forks, MN; a brother, Howard (Erma) Gorder of Gary, MN; sisters-in-law, Marion Gorder of Twin Valley, MN, and Vera Gorder of Moorhead, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Oreal "Tubby", Orville and Norman; sisters, Cora Matson and Mildred Gunderson.
