Melvin was born May 23, 1941, in White Earth, MN, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Bellanger) Manypenny.  He grew up on the White Earth Reservation and attended the White Earth Mission School.  As a young man, Melvin entered the United States Army in 1961.  Following an honorable discharge in 1963, he returned to the White Earth area.  Over the years, Melvin loved to travel and spent time in Phoenix, AZ, Albuquerque, MN, and Denver, CO, but always came back to Minnesota, where he called home.  Melvin was blessed with many children and grandchildren.

Melvin will be remembered as a man on the move.  He loved to travel and was always on the go.  He was a private individual and known to be a bit stubborn, but he also had a great sense of humor and loved to visit with people.  He liked attending pow-wows and discussing politics.  Due to failing health, Melvin has made his home the past year at the Frazee Care Center.

Melvin is survived by his children: Karen Manypenny, Pauline Manypenny, Donna Manypenny, Diane Chilton, Sherri Bevins, Lori Rogers, Candance Thompson, Reba Cross, Mary Youngbear McArthy, James Larouse, Brian Rogers, and Craig Manypenny; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two sisters, Linda Bellanger and Teri Thompson.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11:00 am at the White Earth Community Center in White Earth, MN.  Visitation will begin Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 5:00 pm and continue until the time of the Funeral Service Thursday at the White Earth Community Center. A Wake Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in White Earth.
