Melvin M. Eggen, 96, Ada, MN, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN.

Melvin Martin Eggen was born August 11, 1917, at home in Hegne Township, near Ada. He was one of 12 children born to Carl and Bertha (Hallom) Eggen. He attended country school near Ada and started farming on the home place after his school years. He was a member of Petri Lutheran Church for many years.

On April 12, 1943, he was united in marriage to Regina "Gina" Weber in Ada. They lived and farmed near Ada until 1975, when they moved into town. Melvin also worked for many years with Geddes Equipment and Norman County Equipment, both of Ada. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting deer with his brothers near Grygla, MN, and reading western books. Gina and Melvin were married for 69 years before her passing in 2013. Melvin continued to live at home until this past September when he moved to Benedictine Care Community.

Melvin is survived by a son, Mike (Gloria) Eggen, a daughter, Janet (Kenneth) Sargent, both of Ada, son-in-law, Kevin (Ruby) Thoen, Pierre, SD, one sister Bernice Balzum, of Ada, ten grandchildren, Kenneth (Melissa) Sargent Jr., Chad (LuAnn Hinton) Sargent, Nicole (Jerry) Wohl, Darsey (Patricia) Thoen, Jason (Kami) Thoen, Lori (Todd) Hubka, Bryan Eggen, Mike (Brianna) Eggen, Jason (Jennifer) Eggen, Aaron (Aimee) Eggen, 24 great grandchildren, Bethany, Jessie, Mari, Justin, Alex, Jacob, Gregg, Madison, Cecilia, Logan, Joseph, Kayla, Jacob, Joshua, Kelsey, Kellie, Heidi, Brandon, Brent, Destiny, Payton, Summer, Audrina, and Mavrik, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter Karen Thoen, brothers, Norman, Art, Walter, and Arven, sisters, Net Ueland, Clarice Mickelson, Evelyn Marsten, Dorothy Eggen, infant Clara, another infant sister, and a great grandson, Duke Eggen.

Funeral Service: 1:00pm, Friday, May 30, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm at Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada, MN.

Burial: Petri Cemetery, rural Ada, MN.
