Melva H.
Boreen
Feb 12, 1923 — Sep 14, 2018
Melva H. Boreen, 95, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Twin Valley and Dilworth, MN, died Friday, September 14, 2018, at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.
Melva Harriet Gunderson was born the second of ten children to Melvin and Hildur (Bjerkley) Gunderson on February 12, 1923, at home on the farm near Twin Valley. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Melva attended rural school until she started working around age 15, and also helping to raise her younger siblings.
She first met Newman Boreen at a local dance and after dating a few years, they were married on November 28, 1943, near Twin Valley. They resided on farms mostly in Norman County, where Melva was active in the farming operation; driving truck, milking cows, and picking potatoes. They were blessed with 4 children, Diane, Dennis, Darrell, and Dean.
The family moved to Dilworth in 1963 and Melva began working at The Bowler as a cook for the next 25 years. Newman passed away in 1985 and Melva stayed in Dilworth until 1994, when she moved to Fargo. She enjoyed family reunions and time spent with her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Melva was also an active sports enthusiast and loved all animals. She always looked forward to Sundays and enjoyed watching the Vikings with family. In the latter months, Melva's health had failed and she needed more care. She had entered Bethany Homes where she passed away peacefully last Friday with her family by her side.
Melva is survived by her children; Elizabeth "Diane" Brooks, Glyndon, MN, Dennis (Margie) Boreen, Macomb, MI, Darrell (Kathy) Boreen and Dean (Susan) Boreen, both of Fargo, 4 grandchildren and one step grandchild: Christopher Boreen, Jennifer (Jesse) Maxwell, Ashley Boreen, Jessica Boreen, and Michelle (Chris) Potter, 2 great grandchildren; Brady and Hunter, her brothers; Wayne (Phyllis) Gunderson, Hibbing, MN, Melvin Jr. (Lois) Gunderson, Virginia, MN, her sisters; Shirley (Allen) Thronson, Ada, MN, Beverly Williams, Denver, CO, brother-in-law, Owen Olson, Hibbing, MN, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Newman, her brother, Jewell Gunderson, her sisters, Elaine Boreen, Adell Korsgaden, Ardis Smith, Donna Olson, and infant Janice Gunderson, and one nephew, Kelly Thronson.
