Obituary

Medora Hogetvedt, 96, of Ulen, MN, died Saturday, December 2, 2017, in the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen. Medora Elizabeth Bickel was born February 1, 1921, the third oldest of eight children born to Herbert and Hilda (Hogenson) Bickel. Growing up, she attended country school for eight years followed by one year of high school. Following her schooling, Medora worked for area families and Dr. Hurn in Ulen. On October 23, 1940, she was united in marriage to Adolph Hogetvedt at the parsonage in Ulen. They were blessed with five children: Leo, Carol, Ernie, Betty and Lois. Adolph and Medora farmed together until retiring in 1984. Upon retiring, the couple built a new home in Ulen. Adolph died in 1990 and Medora remained in their home until 1992, when she moved into the assisted living apartments in Ulen. Medora has made her home at the nursing home since 2012. Sweet, caring, non-judgmental, hardworking and all around awesome are only a few words to describe Medora. She was a very special lady who will be greatly missed by many. Although Medora enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and playing cards, her favorite pastime was time spent with her large family. She had 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren who all adored her and spent as much time as they could with her. Medora was also a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She was a woman of great faith, which was evident in her day to day living. Medora is survived by one son, Leo (Yvette) of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Betty (Barry) Lura of Hawley, MN, and Lois Sullivan (Rod Noble) of Browerville, MN; son-in-law, Lyle Saker of Coon Rapids, MN; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Bickel of Detroit Lakes, MN; one sister, Shirley (Wayne) Davies of Houston, TX; many nieces and nephews and extended family on Adolph's side. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph; son, Ernie; daughter, Carol; sisters and brothers-in-law: Norma Bickel, Virgie & Nile Lien, Vera & Leslie "Bud" Ashmore, Ellen & Earl Lien, and Avis & Corkey Ashmore; sister-in-law, Donna Bickel and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 10:30am in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN, with visitation one-hour prior at the church. Burial will take place in the North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
