Maxine Marie Boswell, age 77, of Waubun, MN, died Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home, Mahnomen, under Hospice Care of the Red River Valley.
Maxine Marie (McDougall) Boswell was born at home in Naytahwaush, MN, on April 20, 1940; one of ten children of Leonard J. and Katherine (Morgan) McDougall. She attended Naytahwaush Elementary School and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1958 where she was class president. Maxine married the love of her life, Paul "Bud" Boswell Sr. on April 15, 1959. The couple were blessed with three sons, Paul Jr., Mark and Terry. She attended Bemidji State University and Graduated with a Master's Degree in Education from in 1970. Maxine taught at Fosston Junior High until 1972 and became a career counselor at Detroit Lakes Vocational Technical Institute in 1973. Later in life, she worked as a drug, alcohol and gambling addiction counselor for the White Earth Nation for 18 years, before retiring in 2006. Maxine also pursued a political career and ran for Tribal Chairman and Secretary Treasurer in several contested elections in the 1970s.
Maxine is survived by a son, Mark (Kelly) of St. Paul, MN; brother Earl "Boy" (Eileen) McDougall, Naytahwaush, MN; sisters: Janice (Marcell) Goodwin, Ebro, MN, Norma Fitzgerald, Pittsburgh, PA, Gloria "Bibsy" Goodwin, Bagley, MN, and Suzanne "Timpy" (Dean) Bishop, Waubun, MN; seven grandchildren: Ashley (Tyler), Ryan (Ashley), Kari, Eli, Leena, Jesse and Reena; four great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat "Spanky" and family dog "Kramer". She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Boswell Sr.; sons, Paul and Terry; her parents; brothers: Vernon "Fulla", Leonard Jr. "Sonny"; and sisters Verna "Girly" and Katherine "Honey";
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 2:00 pm at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Naytahwaush, MN. Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2017, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen and continue one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery, Naytahwaush.
