Maurice T. Stadum, 96, Ada, Minnesota, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Mission Nursing Home, Plymouth, MN.
Maurice known as "Morrie" was born on October 20, 1919, at home on the farm near Ada in Hegne Township, the son of Thorvald and Mildred (Eidsmoe) Stadum. He attended school at Ada Public Schools. Morrie enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1941 and served until his discharge in 1945. He was stationed in the European-African Theater and also in the Pacific. He returned to Ada following his discharge and was employed as a mechanic for Sanders Brothers Implement.
Morrie was united in marriage to Jennie Hekman on May 14, 1948. They made their home in Ada where they raised their son, Jim. Morrie was very active in the local Ada Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and served as commander and was instrumental in establishing the VFW building in the 1960's. He enjoyed participating in the various VFW Club functions and was also an active bowler for many years.
Morrie had a passion for the farm and enjoyed working with the Hekman family near Lockhart. His mechanical skills were always appreciated when repairs were needed. He later worked as the school bus superintendent at the Ada-Borup bus garage for many years. He loved transporting the students and also the teams to various sporting activities. Morrie enjoyed attending his son and grandchildren's sporting activities both in high school and college. For many years, Morrie was very active with the Norman County Fairgrounds in Ada. He, along with others volunteered many hours in the maintenance of the grounds and he could be seen on a lawnmower or tractor from April to October. He retired from the bus garage in 1990. Jennie died in 2003 and in 2004, Morrie entered the Twin Valley Living Center. He later moved to the Mission Nursing Home in Plymouth.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Stadum, Brainerd, MN, Jeremy (Teanna) Stadum, Ryan Stadum, Angela (Jared) Houdek, all of Little Falls, MN, his former daughter-in-law, Rose Haugen, of Little Falls, MN, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jennie, son, James, brothers, Ole and Loren, and one sister, Alta Johnson.
Funeral: 10:30AM, Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: 5-7PM Monday with a 6:30PM prayer service at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada, Minnesota.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
