Mary Ellen Rector, age 74, of Waubun, MN, formerly Ada, MN, died Friday, March 31, 2017, in her home under the care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Mary Ellen was born September 14, 1942, in Moorhead, MN, the only daughter of Floyd and Fern (Warner) Gift. She grew up in Halstad, MN, and graduated with the class of 1960. Following graduation, Mary Ellen attended Jamestown College for a year before being united in marriage to Keith Rector on February 19, 1962, in Hendrum, MN. The couple made their home in Ada and was blessed with two boys, Ned and Charles. As the boys grew older, Mary Ellen worked at State Farm Insurance for a number of years. In 1994, Keith and Mary Ellen sold their home in Ada and made their house on White Earth Lake their permanent residence. Mary Ellen's health began to decline over the past few years, but with loving care from her husband and family she was able to remain at home until the time of her death.
Over the years, Mary Ellen never had idle hands. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, fishing and gardening. With her bountiful gardens, she would can much of the fruits of her labors to share with family and friends throughout the year. Mary Ellen was active with the homemakers club and in later years truly cherished the tranquility of being at the lake. She took in many beautiful sunsets over White Earth Lake, capturing many on photographs. Mary Ellen will be missed by all who knew her but live on in their hearts forever.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, Keith of Waubun; sons, Ned (Shelley) of Reiles Acres, ND, and Charles (Mindi) of Edina, MN; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, David (Faye) Rector of Pembina, ND; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Mike) Skalsky of Stockton, CA and Maxine Gift of Princeton, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; Floyd and Fern Gift; brother, Charles Fletcher Gift and brother and sister in law, Dwight and Simone Rector.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
