Obituary

Mary Jane Doak, age 67, of Moorhead, MN, formerly Crookston, MN, died Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Mary Jane Ose was born April 3, 1955, in Mahnomen, MN, the daughter of Larry and Clarice (Dahl) Ose. She grew up, one of seven children, on the family farm east of Gary, MN. Mary Jane graduated from Gary High School with the class of 1973. Following high school, she attended Moorhead State Technical College, graduating with a degree in accounting. Mary Jane worked for the city of Ada as a City Clerk before marrying the love of her life, Gary Doak, at Ness Lutheran Church, rural Gary, in 1975. The couple soon started a family and were blessed with two boys, Steve and Christopher. Mary Jane enjoyed raising her young family and cherished their time together. Over the years, they made their home in the Thief River Falls, MN, Moorhead, and Crookston areas. In August of 1985, Gary died of a heart attack, leaving behind a young family. Mary Jane then furthered her education at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, while working at the First Presbyterian Church in Crookston and also at Tri Valley Opportunity Council, Inc. She later met Jim Olson and the couple made many wonderful memories together before his death. Mary Jane had the precious gift of always maintaining a positive attitude and remaining optimistic, even after the death of her son, Christopher in 2010. She remained in her home in Crookston until 2021, when she moved into an assisted living in Moorhead due to her declining health.

Mary Jane will always be remembered as a loving and caring individual who was known to put others before herself. She gave much of her time and talents to those around her and always looked out for those less fortunate. Mary Jane was very creative and artistic. She loved drawing, painting, working with stained glass, clay, and mosaics. As a true visionary, she had a gift of turning anything and everything into a beautiful work of art. She also enjoyed baking, especially cookies, and always brought a large assortment of her favorite treats to all family gatherings. Mary Jane was a wonderful aunt and found great joy in having children around, especially her nieces and nephews and their families. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her and will live on in their hearts forever.

Mary Jane is survived by her son, Steve Doak of Crookston; mother, Clarice Ose of Gary; brothers: Larry Ose, Jr., of Mahnomen, Brian (Nicole) Ose, also of Mahnomen, and Keith (Angie) Ose of Harwood, ND; sisters: Linda (Mark) Engelstad of Fargo, ND, Julie (Wayne) Oertwich of Crookston, and Sandy (Chris) Mjelde of Moorhead; brother-in-law, Clint (Penny) Doak; sister-in-law, Connie (John) Egstad; a special friend, Kim Ose; many aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
