Mary Ahles, age 69, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, formerly of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, September 16, 2011 in her home.
Mary Catherine Ahles was born to Leo and Veronica (Jaeger) Ahles on December 27, 1941 in Mahnomen, Minnesota, the oldest of the four daughters. She grew up on the Ahles farm two miles south of Mahnomen. Mary attended Mahnomen Elementary School and graduated from Mahnomen High School.
Mary moved to Detroit Lakes and worked at the lunch counter of Woolworths for many years. She enjoyed this work; her friendly and kind nature greeted all she encountered. Mary visited the Southwestern states and especially enjoyed the states of Arizona and California.
The last years of her life, Mary has resided in St. Cloud with her life-long personal friend, Bruce Pearson. Together they enjoyed traveling and toured Washington, D.C. Their travels also took them to New York City, New York where they were able to take in the many spectacular sights and plays.
Mary was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed attending their games. Her interests and hobbies included taking care of the yard and lawn, painting the house, and reading magazines and newspapers. She always liked watching the TV news and sports, such as football, baseball and golf.
Mary is survived by three sisters: Christine (Dennis) Eidenschink, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Diane (David) McCue, Osseo, Minnesota, and Marilyn Ahles, Mounds View, Minnesota; a nephew, Jacob David McCue, Clearwater, Minnesota, and a niece, Rebecca Ann McCue, Osseo, Minnesota. Preceding her in death were her parents, Leo and Veronica Ahles.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 2 pm at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen with Father Tony Fernando officiating. The song leader was Carol Liebl, accompanied by Alex Pribula. Serving as pallbearers were David Jaeger, David McCue, Robert Horack, Ted Kersting, Fred Houdek and Duane Schouveiller.
Visitation was held one hour prior to mass on Friday.
Burial was in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Mahnomen.
