Marvin "Mossy" Tibbetts Jr., age 41, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Detroit Lakes, MN, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Marvin Jr. was born July 1, 1975, in Grand Marais, MN, the oldest son of Lynn (Olson) and Marvin Tibbetts. They lived in Grand Portage, MN, until 1978 when the family moved to Naytahwaush. Mossy attended school in Mahnomen and graduated with the class of 1993. Following graduation, he took a couple years off before furthering his education at Bemidji State University. While at BSU, he studied and proudly made the Dean's list.
Mossy worked at the Shooting Star Casino for 20+ years, some on the floor but mainly in surveillance as a manager. He attended many gaming trainings for his job in various locations including Colorado and Nevada.
Marvin Jr. was united in marriage to Margaret "Maggie" McDougall and together they were blessed with two children. Even though they later divorced, they were both very committed to their children and being good parents. Mossy loved them unconditionally and always had time for a hug and I love you.
In addition to his love for family was his love for the great outdoors. He was a true outdoorsman exhibiting his talents for hunting, fishing, trapping and spearing. These were all activities he could be found doing and most of the time with family creating a memory. He was family oriented and had a great respect for the elders in the community. He will be greatly missed and left everyone with his final facebook post at 8:02 am on Tuesday: Today is the day… Sage smoke up…Tobacco going out…
Mossy is survived by his children, Emily and Emmett, both of Naytahwaush; his parents, Marvin Sr. and Lynn Tibbetts, also of Naytahwaush; two brothers, Dennis (Leah Bloom) of White Earth, MN, and Jeff (Brianna Goodwin) of Ebro, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
