Marvin Russell Skaug , 89, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
He was born May 30, 1922 to Huldah (Olson) and Reis Skaug in Crookston, Minnesota. He attended Beltrami Public School and graduated in 1941. Marvin was united in marriage to Ann Gladys Mjolsness on May 10, 1945. Two days later, Reis unexpectedly passed away. Immediately Marvin became in charge of the family farm. The farm charter homestead date is 1886 and remains in the family to this day.
Marvin was a visionary. He was instrumental in the development of the Beltrami Mall. His farming operation adopted new changes with many modern techniques. He was on the church council when the Beltrami Trinity Church was built. Marvin was a lifetime member of Beltrami Lutheran Church and served in various board positions. He was actively involved in many agriculture organizations.
After almost forty years of building a successful farming business, Marvin and Ann built a home and moved to Fertile in 1984. He continued to work with his son on the farm. Having more free time, he began a hobby of woodcarving and carved over 200 items.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, story-telling, enjoying a good joke, love of dogs and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Ann, McIntosh, MN; children: Kathleen (John) Swanson, Mentor, MN, Kathryn (Paul) Brue, Sioux Falls, SD, Marilyn (Joel Burstein) Remark, Salinas, CA, Carolyn (Todd) Christian, Fertile, MN, Michael (DeAnn) Skaug, Beltrami, MN and Joan (Ross) Kroeker, Carmel, CA, seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, his sister, Margaret Orvik, and her children Jill and Mark(Sue) of Fairbault, MN.

Funeral service: 10:30AM Thursday (Dec. 29, 2011) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN.
Visitation: Wednesday 6-8PM with a 7:30PM prayer service at Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Beltrami, MN.
