Marvin P. Peterson, 74, Lockhart, MN, passed away at Benedictine Care Community in Ada, MN, on Saturday, May 23, 2020, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Marvin was born on May 18, 1946 to Lawrence and Theodora (Larson) Peterson in Crookston.

He was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church of Lockhart. He attended Lockhart Elementary School until the 8th grade. He transitioned up to Crookston A.C. where he graduated. Shortly after high school, in March of 1966, he was drafted in the Army. After staying at Fort Lewis Military base in Washington, he was sent to Vietnam. During the war he was a Triple Deuce Track Driver for the 22nd Infantry. His track was nicknamed "The Big Hurt". During the Vietnam War, he earned many medals and was so proud of them. He was honorably discharged in December of 1967.

On March 31, 2001, Marv was united in marriage to Joan Odden at First English Lutheran Church in Lockhart. Joan passed away on July 22, 2017.

Marv was a life-long farmer who enjoyed collecting antique tractors, raising horses, hunting, and getting together with fellow Vietnam Veterans. His infectious smile, laughter, and kindness will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Theodora; his wife, Joan; sister and brother-in-law, Lavonne and Lynn Lammer; and brother, Larry Peterson.

Marv is survived by his sister, Eldora Sheldon of Saint Cloud; brother, Jonathon (Joanne) Peterson of Ada; and sister-in-law, Betty Jo Peterson of Ada; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Blessed be his memory. All undesignated memorials will be given in Marvin's memory to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Funeral: Due to public health concerns with the coronavirus called COVID-19,
a private family funeral will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at 10: 00 AM, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Interment: Lockhart Pleasant View Cemetery, Lockhart, MN, immediately following the funeral.
