Obituary

Marvin "Monk" Kier, 47, of Waubun, MN, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Marvin was born May 12, 1959, in Mahnomen, MN, to Wilfred, Sr. and Julia (Wadena) Kier. He grew up in Naytahwaush, MN, where he attended grade school. Monk moved to Waubun, MN, where he furthered his education at Waubun High School. Following his schooling, he began working, mostly self-employed doing what he enjoyed--trapping, fishing, leeching and ricing. In the early 1980's, Monk attended the Minnesota Northwest Technical College in Detroit Lakes, MN, obtaining his certificate in Electrical Construction. With this knowledge, he worked for various companies doing construction over the years. Monk also studied culinary arts at the tech in Detroit Lakes.

Monk was a jack-of-all-trades. He made his living off the land and whether he was fishing, hunting, leeching or ricing, he loved working and just being in the great outdoors. Monk also enjoyed native cultural crafts and was a very talented artist including painting and carving. Above all, Monk truly cherished the times spent with family and friends, especially the joy his stepchildren and grandchildren brought him. He will be missed by many.

Marvin is survived by a step-son, Guy Keezer; four step-daughters: Nea Keezer, Ronnielyn Keezer, Annabelle Keezer and Leslie Keezer; four step-grandchildren: Tallie, Jimmy, Brandon, and Jennifer; one brother, Charles (Lynda) Wadena; five sisters: Judy (Jerry) Rawley, Patleen (Jeff) Straub, Darla (Clair) Kier, Dianne Kier, and Carolyn (Arnie) Kier, all of Waubun, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Wilfred Kier, Jr., Willy Kier, Dicky Manypenny, LeRoy Kier, and Danny Kier; and one sister, Elaine Kier.

Blessed be the memory of Marvin Lee "Monk" Kier.
