Marvel Nepstad, 98, Ada, MN, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Essentia Health Hospital, Ada, MN.

Marvel was born on January 11, 1917, in rural Hendrum, MN, the daughter of Ludwig and Tilla (Olson) Foss. She was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church (Good Hope) near Shelly, MN, and later confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church rural Beltrami, MN. Marvel worked as a hired girl for area families in her teen years. On October 13, 1935, Marvel married Gunder Nepstad at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hendrum. She was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, east of Hendrum.

Marvel worked with her husband on the farm. She later did house cleaning in the Ada area, worked in the beet and potato fields and at Ada Produce Company. She was the Ada Senior Citizens Coordinator, a job she loved. Marvel enjoyed working with the seniors making crafts, quilting, working with the pottery kiln, and rug making. She also formed a choir, which performed in many area churches. Gunder passed away in 1985 and Marvel lived in her own home for many years before moving to an assisted living apartment in Ada in 2006 and to Benedictine Care Community of Ada in April 2014.

Marvel is survived by a daughter: Betty (William) Wilkens, a son: Marvin (Donna) Nepstad, both of Ada, MN; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gunder, infant son Ronald, a great-grandchild, sisters: Roslyn Foss, Gladys (Wilber) Johnson, Grace (Orville) Johnson, and brothers: Melvin Foss and Archie Foss.

Funeral: 11:00AM, Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church,
Ada, MN.


Visitation: 5-7PM, Friday with a Prayer Service at 7:00PM at the Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada, MN.

Burial: Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Hendrum, MN.
