Obituary

Marlys Hogetvedt, age 81, of Brainerd, MN, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in her home, under the care of St. Croix Hospice and her son.

Marlys was born on August 2, 1943, in Ulen, MN, to John and Opal (Reideberger) Burnside. Growing up on the family farm, she found joy in helping with chores and riding horses. On May 11, 1963, Marlys married the love of her life, Larry Hogetvedt, in Hawley, MN. Together, they moved to Minneapolis, MN, and were blessed with two sons, Larry Jr. and Jesse.

While living in the Twin Cities, Marlys worked at UNIVAC in Crystal, MN, where she honed her skills in soldering and assembling computer parts, a job she took pride in for a number of years. The family made their home in various places across the metro area, including Brooklyn Park and Ham Lake. During this time, Marlys worked with Juno Enterprises for 15 years until her well-deserved retirement. In 1999, Marlys and her family relocated to Brainerd. After the passing of her beloved husband Larry in 2001 and her son Larry Jr. in 2015, Marlys and Jesse continued to make Brainerd their home.

Marlys enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, where she cultivated a stunning array of blooms. She had a talent for baking and cooking delicious treats for her loved ones and cherished the quiet moments spent reading. Marlys had a keen eye for beauty and enjoyed discovering unique treasures and jewelry, often finding the perfect piece to add to her carefully curated collections on the Home Shopping Network. Above all, Marlys cherished the company of her family and close friends, finding joy and fulfillment in their presence. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marlys is survived by her son, Jesse; grandchildren: Lucas Mcrunnel, Tiffany Mcrunnel, and Heather Mcrunnel; brothers: Roger (Char) Burnside, Kenny (Diane) Burnside, and Andrew (Gary Gorecki) Burnside; sister-in-law, Donna Burnside; and many nieces and nephews.

Marlys was preceded by her parents; husband, Larry Sr.; son, Larry Jr.; sisters, Arlene Buretta and Julie Syverson; and brothers: Duane Burnside, Curt Burnside, Gary Burnside, and infant brother, Roger.
