Obituary

Marlyn Woltjer, age 70, of Twin Valley, MN, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 in his home.

Marlyn Elroy Woltjer was born October 26, 1942 the son of Edvin and Martha (Braunschweig) Woltjer in Ada, MN. He was raised on a farm north of Ada and later moved with his family into Ada. Following his graduation from Ada High School, Marlyn furthered his education for one year at Mayville State College. In February of 1966, Marlyn entered the United States Air Force where he was a mechanic. After his honorable discharge on August 1, 1969 Marlyn attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN. On July 17, 1971 Marlyn was united in marriage to Diana Fjeld at First Lutheran Church in Ada. The couple made their home in the Ada community for several years before moving to Twin Valley in 1988. Marlyn was employed by the Norman County Highway Department in the early 1970's, retiring in 2001, after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, Marlyn worked part-time at Norman County East School during sporting events.

Marlyn was an avid outdoorsman. Marlyn loved spending time in the woods and would bait bear during the bear hunting season. He was an enthusiastic hunter and looked forward to deer hunting season with his family. Marlyn enjoyed playing Santa Clause which he did for many years for the city of Twin Valley. He also worked as flagman at the auto races in Ada and Mahnomen over the years. Other favorite pastimes included attending auction sales, rummage sales and working with horses. Marlyn loved spending time with family and friends, but he truly treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Marlyn is survived by his wife of 41 years, Diana of Twin Valley; daughter, Amy (Toni Jesinoski) Woltjer of Brooklyn Center, MN; sons, Jacob (Emily) Woltjer of Mooreton, ND and Adam (Kelly) Woltjer of Mahnomen, MN; grandchildren, William, Ayden and Samuel Woltjer, Luke and Harper Woltjer and Ty Jesinoski; a brother, LaVern (Brenda) Woltjer of Wilmar, MN; a sister, Sandra Breiland of Northfield, MN; an aunt, Ardell (Sid) Erstad of Ada, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 2-4PM with a Prayer Service at 4PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Funeral Services were held Monday, January 28 at 11AM in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Officiating was Pastor Kelly Ahola with Danette Gwin serving as organist and special music provided by Nathan Fjeld, Colette Hellerud, Carla Wilebski and Kaley Hellerud. Pallbearers were all of his nephews: Nathan Fjeld, Jay Merkens, Tim Brandt, Andrew Woltjer, Matthew Woltjer, Hans Breiland and Gus Breiland. Honorary pallbearers were special friends, Dick Beckman and Ron Donaldson and his grandchildren: William Woltjer, Ayden Woltjer, Samuel Woltjer, Luke Woltjer, Harper Woltjer and Ty Jesinoski.

Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
