Marjorie Louise Roy, age 75, of Waubun, MN, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Marjorie Louise, the daughter of Wilfred and Eulalia (Brisbois) LaFriniere, was born on September 22, 1943, in White Earth, MN. She was raised near Roy Lake, MN and attended grade school in Naytahwaush, MN, later graduating from Mahnomen High School. On May 6, 1960, Marge was united in marriage to Leo Roy and together they were blessed with seven children. In their early years of marriage, they lived in California for a time before moving to Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Crookston, MN for many wonderful years where Marge worked in the HeadStart Program. Through this position, Marge decided to continue her education and received her degree in Early Childhood Education. The family then spent a few years in Storm Lake, IA. While caring for her own children, Marge also worked various jobs. After the family returned to Minnesota, she began her career with the United States Post Office. Marge worked part time for area post offices before becoming the Post Master in Borup, MN in 1983. They lived in Borup until 1986 when she relocated to become the Post Master in Twin Valley, MN. The family made their home in Twin Valley until Marge's retirement on October 1, 2003.
Marge and Leo loved to travel and spent many months on the road each year. They spent their winters in South Padre Island, TX and often visited family in New Mexico and California. They took grandchildren on various vacations around the United States, making lifelong memories, until her health prevented these adventures. Marge was always busy and never sat idle. She doted on her family and treasured time spent with loved ones. Marge was an excellent cook and was known for her breads, fried chicken and potato salad. She regularly packed a picnic lunch and took the family on a "woods ride" simply to spend time together in the great outdoors. Marge also loved to sing and sit quietly with a good book. In her younger years, she had a large garden and no matter where they lived, Marge always had beautiful flowers in the yard. As her health declined and her memory faded, the family cherished their quiet times together. Marge entered Ecumen Nursing Home in 2017 where she has resided since.
Marge is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Leo Sr. of Waubun; three daughters: Bonnie (Ray Bisek) Spaeth of Detroit Lakes, Wendy Roy of Naytahwaush, MN, and Brenda Lundon of Mahnomen; three sons, Leo Roy Jr. of Detroit Lakes, Brian (Jessica Rath) Roy of Cloquet, MN, and Matt Roy of Fargo, ND; 18 grandchildren: Tony, Beth, April, Sarah, Angie, Desi, Dusty, Natalie, Marcus, Amanda, Tina, Cassie, Emily, Izzy, Cadence, Kyra, Jackson, and Claudia; 19 great grandchildren: and eight siblings: Caroline L.
