Marion L. Seeger, age 82, of rural Mahnomen, MN, returned to our Heavenly Father, on May 18, 2011, at the Palliative Care Unit, Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND surrounded by her family.
Marion LaVerne Seeger was born April 27, 1929, to Lewis and Lillie (Slette) Stene. She was raised on her parent's farm. Marion was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Faith, MN, where she remained a faithful member all her life. Marion attended rural Banner School thru the 8th grade and then went on to graduate from Twin Valley High School in 1947. After high school, she attended Fargo Business College and held various jobs in Fargo. On September 18, 1949, Marion was united in marriage to Allen Seeger at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Allen and Marion lived on the Seeger farm, rural Mahnomen for two years. Later they moved to Lakeville, MN, where they lived for seven years, before returning to the Seeger farm to live and raise their family. Allen and Marion celebrated 60 years of marriage before Allen passed away in November of 2009.
Marion was a homemaker in every sense of the word. Baking nine loaves of bread weekly was standard when she and Allen were raising their family. She sewed clothes for herself and her children, and raised a garden with both vegetables and flowers. Many of her garden flowers were brought to church for altar bouquets. As an active member of St. Olaf, Marion taught Sunday School, attended church conventions as a delegate, participated in the ladies aid and utilized her sewing skills to make banners and quilts. Marion taught these skills to her children and others as well as being an adult leader for the Flom Fossum 4-H club for many years. Helping her husband with the farm chores whenever needed, kept her busy inside and out. She liked to keep a diary of the day's events, including the weather, just as her father, Lewis, had always done. During their retirement years, Marion and Allen loved to travel and spent many winters in the south. Marion also enjoyed painting and collecting pretty dishes. She was a watchful and doting grandmother, and so enjoyed her great grandson.
Marion is survived by her three children: son, Mark (Cindy) Seeger of Twin Valley, daughters, Susan (Ted) Helms and Nancy (Dale) Gunderson all of Moorhead, MN; a sister, Lois Syverson of Ulen, MN; two brothers-in-law, Duane Seeger of Mahnomen, MN and John Hanson of Detroit Lakes, MN; seven grandchildren: Gina and Travis Seeger, Ryan, Tom and Andy Donner, Nick (Rachel) and Kevin Gunderson; one great-grandchild, Aiden Gunderson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a grandchild; a daughter-in-law; a brother and several brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles and cousins.
