Marilyn
Pavek
Jun 17, 1937 — Dec 27, 2020
Detroit Lakes
Marilyn Pavek, age 83, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Waubun, MN, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Pelican Landing Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Marilyn Joyce Bement was born to Ben and Alma (Wambach) Bement, in Detroit Lakes, on June 17, 1937. She grew up in the Waubun area and graduated from Waubun High School, Class of 1955. On January 27, 1956, Marilyn was united in marriage to Lloyd Pavek in Mason City, IA. To this union, twelve children were born, seven sons and five daughters. As her children grew to school age, Marilyn began working for the Waubun School as the Community Education Director. She passionately arranged events for the school and the community. She enjoyed playing in the Wednesday Night Volleyball program for many years and loved watching her children's, and later her grandchildren's, sporting events and school activities. As lifelong members of the Waubun community, Lloyd and Marilyn were active on many community committees. Marilyn was involved in the Waubun PTA, Relay for Life, Hobby Club and volunteered her time and talent as a Scouting den mother, and VFW Auxiliary member, as well as many other groups over the years. They belonged to St. Ann's Catholic Church where Marilyn was devoted to the Ladies' Aide, National Society of Catholic Foresters, and Rosary Altar Society. Marilyn proudly wrote the weekly Waubun Forum news columns for the Mahnomen Pioneer for many years. She kept meticulous notes, lists, and recipes, never missing any details. Family was first and foremost in Marilyn's eyes and she truly cherished spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. One of her favorite gifts was to bake Christmas treats for her family and friends. Caramels, fudge and donuts were her specialties. Shortly after Lloyd's death in 2015, Marilyn moved to Detroit Lakes and Eventide Care Community in Fargo, ND. She recently relocated to Detroit Lakes to be near family. The loving care Marilyn received by the staff at Eventide, Pelican Landing, and Hospice of the Red River Valley is greatly appreciated.
Marilyn is survived by her 12 children; Sons, Steve (Linda) of Audubon, MN, Rick (Deb) of Waubun, Greg (Heidi) of Waubun, Jim of Oakdale, MN, Mike of Eagan, MN, Dan (Tina) of Edina, MN, Chris (Gena) of Eagan, Daughters, Sue (Ted) Peterson of Alexandria, MN, Terri (Todd) Irey of Stillwater, MN, Pam (Charlie) Jasken of Detroit Lakes, MN, Judy (Tom) Goldsmith of Warroad, MN, and Lisa of Fargo, ND; 35 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren ; two sisters: Colleen Blattenbauer and Barb (Ed) Syverson of Waubun, MN; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lois Bement and Barb Pavek; Bernard (Therese) Pavek, and Ed Pavek.
