Marilyn Olson, 79, of Fertile, MN, died on Wednesday, November 10 2010, at her son's home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Marilyn Kaye was born on October 23, 1931 to Kensal and Marion (Lang) Bolstad in Fertile, Minnesota. She grew up in Fertile and graduated from Fertile High School in 1949.
On November 6, 1949, Marilyn was united in marriage to Vance Olson at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN. They moved to Fargo, ND, where Vance worked at the Fire Hall. After a year, they bought a farm in Spring Creek Township, farming until retirement in 1989, and moving to Fertile. Marilyn entered Bridges' Care Community, Ada, MN in 2002. She moved to her son and daughter-in-law's home in November, 2010
Marilyn was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was very creative and talented at drawing. She grew a garden and canned its produce, as well as baking, for her family. Marilyn became an excellent farmer's wife assisting Vance, even though she had little farming background. She was quiet and reflective, loved to care for her children and grand children.
Marilyn is survived by three sons: Daniel (Donna) Milaca, MN; Randall (Audrey), Fertile, MN; and Ryan (Bonnie), Thief River Falls, MN, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vance in 1994.
