Marie Tangen, age 95, of Ulen, MN passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Sanford Health Systems, Fargo, ND.
Marie Larson was born August 23, 1917 the daughter of Oscar and Laura (Aune) Larson in Felton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On April 3, 1954, Marie was united in marriage to Fritjof Tangen at the Bethlehem Lutheran parsonage in Ulen. Marie was a good, hard working woman doing what she knew how to do best: cooking, cleaning and care-giving. She was employed at Lake Park Lefse and the Viking Manor Nursing Home where she was proud to say she was the first nurse's aide to work the night shift by herself. Marie and Fritz owned and operated the Tangen Café, Ulen and for several years she headed up the committee that prepared the delicious potato salad for the Annual Ulen Turkey B-B-Q. Fritz died January 7, 1981. Marie continued to make her home in Ulen until the time of her death.
Marie's favorite pastimes included playing bingo and whist, her favorite card game. She loved music and was a great dance partner.
Marie is survived by her son, Bobby Tangen, Ulen, and daughter, Paulette (Dick) Nathe, St. Cloud, MN; daughter-in-law, Marlys (Darwin) Leach, Lake Park, MN; sister-in-law, Ardis Larson, Ulen; six grandchildren, Jacqui (Frank) Kafadar, Robert Burda, Jenny and Ali Nathe, Kristi (Kory) Shae and Erica Tangen; seven great-grandchildren, Vivian, Michael, Travin, McKenna, Olivia, Payson and Carson along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fritz; son, Toby Burda; grandson, Christopher Tangen sisters, Agnes Radeck, Gladys Mortenson and twin sister, Myrtle Freed and brothers, Oliver, Art, Milton and Victor.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Ulen Rescue Squad and the Ulen Fire Dept.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 3:00 PM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Officiating was Pastor Mike Rueckert with Susan Green serving as organist and Doreen Cerkowniak serving as vocalist. Pallbearers were Ronnie Larson, Donnie Freed, Raymond Larson, Robbie Burda, Mitch Larson and Kenny Hochhalter.
Interment was in the West Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
