Marie Schoenborn, age 94, of Mahnomen, MN, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Marie Elizabeth was born November 17, 1913, in Lake Henry, MN, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Niehaus) Kemper. As a very young child, Marie moved with her family to the Waubun, MN, area. She grew up helping on the family farm and attended Fish Lake Country School near her home. On October 28, 1941, Marie was united in marriage to Leo Anton Schoenborn at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. The couple made their home North East of Waubun, where they farmed and raised their own family. Over the years, Marie helped Leo with the day to day chores and also managed to tend to a large and plentiful garden and flowers beds. Leo died in January of 1985 and Marie remained on the farm, with her eldest son, Earl, looking after her until 2005 when she moved into the nursing home.
Marie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu and its ladies aid. She also held membership with the Christian Mothers of Beaulieu. In her younger years, Marie loved to dance, especially the Polka and Waltz. A pastime that she always looked forward to was a good game of cards, like Whist or Solo. She will be greatly missed by everyone who was a part of her life.
Marie is survived by one daughter, Doris (Ken) Gilbertson of Ada, MN; three sons: Earl of Waubun, Elmer (Beverly) and Jerry (Gloria) both of Mahnomen; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
