Marian V. Gilbertson, 98, of Halstad, MN, died Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at Halstad Living Center, in Halstad.

Marian Velma Oien was born August 9, 1920, in Marshal County, MN, near Holt. Her parents were Henry and Grace (Christianson) Oien. At a young age, she moved with family to Thief River Falls where she was baptized Lutheran. When she was 10, she moved to Shelly, MN, where she attended school and later graduated from Climax (MN) High School. In 1946, she moved to Wadena, MN, and worked for a short time as a telephone operator.

Marian was united in marriage to Reuben Gilbertson on June 23, 1946, at the Shelly Lutheran Church. They made their home in Halstad. She continued working as a telephone operator for a few years and also worked for the local dry cleaners and Halstad Lutheran Church as custodian. She stayed busy as a homemaker and raising her daughters. She was active with the church, Ladies Aid, and enjoyed embroidery, baking, and tieing quilts with the church quilting group. She always shared her talents of cooking and baking with others, which included her specialties, donuts, lefse, and Christmas cookies.

After Reuben passed away in 1990, she continued to live at her home until moving to the Heritage House, until recently residing at the Halstad Living Center. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Hammett, Shreveport, LA, and Patricia (Larry) Lindgren, Fargo, ND; her grandchildren: Cheri Carden, Kristen Hammett, Audra McIntire, Amanda Lindgren, and Chris Lindgren; great grandchildren: Mackenzie Carden, Ava Lindgren, Gavin Lindgren, Garrett Matlock, Austin McIntire, and Ryan McIntire; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reuben, and her brothers and sisters: Orvis, Gordon and Gus Oien, Alice Lundell, and Harriet Starkey.

Funeral Service: 2:00PM Friday, July 19, 2019, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Halstad North Cemetery, Halstad, MN.
