Margaret (Maggie) S. Speer, 42, Dilworth, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24, 2025 while in Minneapolis, MN.
Margaret (Maggie) Susan Speer was born on November 10, 1982, in Moorhead, MN, to Darrell (Pete) Speer and Debra Thomas. She joined her older brother, Jeff, who was three at the time, completing their family of four. Maggie began her education at Moorhead High School (MHS) in her hometown before eventually graduating from Roseau High School in Roseau, MN. A lifelong learner, she was a recent graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM), where she pursued her passion for helping others.
Throughout her life, Maggie embraced many differing employment opportunities, even working alongside her mother for a few years when Deb owned and operated a home health organization. Maggie then found her calling as a counselor and peer specialist, supporting individuals struggling with addiction at the Clay County Detox Facility. Maggie's compassion extended to her work in Clay, Cass and Becker counties. She tirelessly advocated for Indigenous and missing people, and supported organizations dedicated to helping the homeless.
Maggie was deeply committed to bettering herself so she could better serve others. Most recently, she was pursuing her degree to become a licensed social worker and had accepted a position with Clay County, a role she was excited to begin.
Beyond her professional life, Maggie was known for her kind and loving heart. She adored all animals, especially cats, and cherished time spent playing board games with her family and visiting close friends. She shared a special bond with her brother, Jeff, and his wife Dominique, and was loved by all who knew her for her unique spirit and genuine care for others.
Maggie leaves behind her mother, Debra Thomas, Felton, MN; her brother, Jeff (Dominique), Fargo, ND; extended family members, such as aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many dear friends and colleagues who will miss her deeply. She is preceded in death by her father, Darrell (Pete) Speer.
Maggie's legacy of compassion, advocacy, and love will live on in the many lives she touched.
