Margaret Kathleen Pelzman (Piatz), 78, peacefully took Rudy's hand and entered eternal rest on June 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Essentia Health in Ada, Minnesota.
Margaret was born on November 27, 1947, to Casper and Esther (Myhre) Piatz at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, North Dakota. She was especially proud to be named after her grandmother, Margaret Heggeseth. During her eighth-grade year at Svea School, she was the only student in her class. Margaret was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Sanborn, North Dakota, and attended school in Sanborn.
On December 4, 1965, Margaret married the love of her life, Rudolph "Rudy" Pelzman, in Valley City, North Dakota. Together they began their family in North Dakota before moving to Ada, Minnesota, where they raised their four children and built a life centered around faith, family, and friends.
Margaret was a woman of many talents, with cooking and baking among many of her greatest gifts. In the early 1980s, she opened Margaret's Merry Go Round Daycare, which she lovingly operated until the mid-1990s. After closing her daycare, she dedicated nearly ten years of service as a CNA before retiring in the early 2000s.
Retirement brought new adventures for Margaret and Rudy. They enjoyed traveling, working puzzles, and playing card games together every day. They spent many cherished summers camping at the Sibley Campsite in North Dakota, where Margaret especially loved her camper, the lake, and the time spent making memories with loved ones. Their camping adventures continued until 2019, creating years of treasured memories that she carried with her throughout her life.
Margaret found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved gardening, reading, her TV shows and baking treats for family gatherings and, perhaps most of all, beating everyone at card games. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her siblings were also important to her. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always made sure there were plenty of goodies in the house and enough love to go around.
Margaret is survived by her children, Brian (Charlotte) Pelzman of Ada, Minnesota, Bernard (Joy) Pelzman of Crookston, Minnesota, Bruce Pelzman and Annette Cardoni of Crookston, Minnesota, and Sheila Hornbeak of Ada, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, John (Jeanine) Piatz of Sanborn, North Dakota, George (Shelly) Piatz of Valley City, North Dakota, and Bernard (Janice) Piatz of Cooperstown, North Dakota; her sister, Karen (Vernon) Aus of Sanborn, North Dakota; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Casper and Esther Piatz; her beloved husband, Rudy; her sisters, Marlene Dahl and Bonnie Hare; her granddaughter, Burgundy Pelzman; and two nieces and two nephews.
Margaret's kindness, generosity, quick wit, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
