Margaret Agnes Nephew, 90, of Fertile, MN, died on Friday, November 1, 2013, at the Riverview Health Care Center, Crookston, MN. She was born on June 2, 1923, to William and Mary (Spieker) Brennan on the home farm near Lakeville, MN. Margaret graduated from the Lakeville High School in 1941 and attended Business College. She began working in Minneapolis, MN, where she met Pat, her future husband's sister. Pat introduced Margaret to Arnold and a wedding was planned.
On September 9, 1947, Margaret was united in marriage to Arnold Nephew at Lakeville MN. Following their wedding, they moved back to Fertile. Initially, Margaret stayed home and raised the children. As time moved on she worked for Ramberg Gas and Oil and Erickson Oil as a bookkeeper. Margaret also volunteered as the bookkeeper for St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years. Arnold died on December 13, 2005 and her son, Arnold Jr, died three days later on December 16, 2005. Margaret loved her home and was able to live there until her final days.
Coffee and treats awaited anyone who stopped by Margaret's home. Many friends gathered at her home to talk and share coffee and baked goods. Margaret was known for the tremendous amount of walking she did for both work and on errands around town. She enjoyed baking, canning, and gardening flowers but she had a spe cial place in her heart for all the dogs her children brought to the house. Margaret was proud of her Irish heritage, but she adapted well to Fertile and her Norwegian relatives and actually came to relish Lutefisk and Lefse. Margaret was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. May God bless her memory.
Margaret is survived by two sons: Robert (Mary), Erskine, MN; and Timothy (Jane), Moorhead, MN; two daughters: Joan Nephew, Dayton, MN; and Patricia Mack, Minneapolis, MN; one daughter-in-law, Terri Nephew, Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Therese McDonough, Fargo, ND; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and several nephews and nieces.
