Margaret E. Golberg, 97, Fertile, Mn, died on Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN .
Margaret was born on May 30, 1913, to Oscar and Maren (Iverson) Elo in Groton, SD. She was baptized in Groton and confirmed her faith at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton, ND. Margaret attended school in Wahpeton, finishing her education at the Wahpeton State School of Science. During her high school years, she clerked at Montgomery Wards. In the early 1930's, Margaret worked in sales at a ladies ready to wear shop.
Margaret was united in marriage to Thorvald Golberg on December 3, 1934, in Wahpeton. She worked as a clerk in various Richland County offices before moving with her husband to Lisbon, ND, in the late 1930's. Margaret worked with her husband, who was a farm mortgage consultant, doing clerical duties until 1942. In the late 1940's, they moved to Fargo, ND. In 1956, Margaret began doing clerical work for Lyons and Lyons Accounting. After Thorvald died in 1965, Margaret continued to work until she retired in 1984 and moved to Fertile.
During Margaret's younger years she enjoyed roller skating and bowling and golf. However, music was her number one pastime. She was in choirs, small groups and sang solos and sang in many competitions. As she grew older her interests changed to reading, playing games, and watching sports. Margaret always held to a strong Christian faith, being active in choir, Ladies Aid, Bible study and Circle.
Margaret is survived by two daughters: Karen Owens, and her husband, David, Bloomington, MN; and Donna McClelland, and her husband, H. Thomas, Everett, WA; one son-in-law, David Swenson, Fertile, MN; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thorvald, October 11, 1965, daughters, Patricia Golberg, June 7, 1945, and Mary Swenson, December 7, 2009, one sister, Marion Elo, December 30, 1926, and one brother, Maurice.
Funeral services will be on
Friday, October 8, 2010, at 2 PM in the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, Mn.
Visitation will be one before the services at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.
Interment of ashes will be at the Walcott Cemetery, Walcott, ND.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.
