Mardell Kroshus, age 78, of Ada, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 06, 2008, in MeritCare Health Systems, Fargo, North Dakota.
Mardell Fjeld was born March 20, 1930 near Faith, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Gulborg (Martinson) Fjeld. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Faith. She attended school in Faith and Fosston, Minnesota. On May 14, 1949, Mardell was united in marriage to Allen Kroshus in Grace Lutheran Church, Ada. The couple made their home in Ada, where they raised their six children. Mardell was employed by the Ada Municipal Hospital in housekeeping for several years. After retiring from the hospital, she and Allen managed the Playhouse Café in Borup, Minnesota, for a few years, until retiring in 1979. Allen died January 28, 2004. Mardell continued to make her home in Ada until the time of her death.
Mardell enjoyed company and you would always be welcomed with a cup of coffee and treats. She will be long remembered for her home-made donuts and lefse. Mardell loved being a grandma and truly treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
Mardell is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Ronald) Mittag of Detroit Lakes, MN, Patricia (Ronald) Brown of Pelican Rapids, MN and Kerry (Nathan) Redland of Halstad, MN; three sons, Richard (Gloria) Kroshus of Beltrami, MN, Ron Kroshus and Wayne (Linda) Kroshus both of Ada, MN; two sisters, Ethel (Owen) Sterton of Hendrum, MN and Gladys (Richard) Norum of Bayport, MN; two brothers, Stanley (Eleanor) Fjeld and Donald (Laura) Fjeld both of Twin Valley, MN; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Kroshus of Fargo, ND, Olive Sivertson of Moorhead, MN and Evie Gilbertson of Ada, MN; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Barbara, son, Allen, Jr., one sister and three brothers.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 3:00 PM in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley, Minnesota. Officiating was Pastor Paul Erdal with Belinda Fjeld serving as organist and Mike Sterton serving as vocalist. Pallbearers were Chad Mittag, Casey Mittag, Jeffrey Brown, Christopher Redland, Jason Kroshus, William Kroshus, Tyler Kroshus and Aaron Kesselberg. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
Interment were in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley, MN.
