Marcella "Marcie" Peterson, age 88, of Waubun, MN, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Marcie was born March 8, 1924 to Joseph and Rose (Schroeder) Kemper. She graduated from Waubun High School in 1942 and went on to receive her teaching certificate. At which time, Marcie began teaching country school. On June 19, 1947 Marcie was united in marriage to Norris Peterson in Waubun. The couple made their home in Waubun and raised their family. Marcie was able to stay at home with their children until they all became school age. In 1966, she went back to the school helping as an aid and also furthered her education with a Bachelor of Science in Education from MSUM. Marcie was employed through the Waubun School District for 34 years, retiring in 1993. Although retired, she continued to substitute teach until the late 1990's when she began babysitting her great-grandchildren. Currently still helping with them, Marcie enjoyed being involved with their activities as it kept her young.

Marcie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, MSUM Alumni, WOW, and a lifetime member of Ex POW and Disabled American Veterans. She was also a very active member of St. Ann's Parish in Waubun. She taught RCIA and confirmation classes for many years, served as a Eucharistic Minister, helped with the ladies aid and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Justin 2020.

Not one to sit still, Marcie was a busy lady. She thoroughly enjoyed walking places and being able to travel both near and far, even going to Rome and Turkey. Marcie was all about good hospitality, having her children and others over for lunch after Sunday Mass, and being a conscientious person, that nothing should go to waste. She had a bountiful garden and was able to cook, bake, can or share the produce from the fruits of her labor. In Marcie's spare time she also enjoyed reading, shopping and knitting, especially dish rags.

Marcie is survived by her children: Kathy (Myron) Larson, Doug, Dick, Don and Bill "Salty" all of Waubun; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim (Pearl) Kemper of Anoka, MN; one sister, Delores Barker of Marysville, CA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norris in 1991, daughter-in-law, June Peterson; two brothers, Harold and Richard and two sisters, Viola in infancy and Luella Centerwall.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun.

Visitation will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, with a Rosary and Prayer Service beginning at 6:30pm, on Tuesday, November 20th.

Burial will take place at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Waubun.
