Watch Marcy's Funeral Mass

Marcella "Marcy" Busse, age 80, of Mahnomen, MN, died Monday, July 20, 2020, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home, Mahnomen, MN,

Marcella Rita Blaser was born March 2, 1940, close to midnight, to John and Gertrude "Gertie" (Berens) Blaser in Beaulieu, MN. She was delivered at home by her grandmother, Willamenia Blaser, who was also a midwife. Growing up, Marcy was told that her birthday was March 3 rd . It wasn't until 50+ years later, when she got a copy of her birth certificate, that she found out her birthday was actually March 2 nd . From then on Marcy celebrated her birthday on either day AND sometimes both!

Growing up, Marcy attended country school through the 6 th grade before attending high school in Mahnomen, graduating with the class of 1958. She was the "Girl Next Door" for William "Bill" Busse.  After Bill was honorably discharged from the Army in May of 1960, the couple was united in marriage on September 24, 1960, at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, MN. They lived near their families until 1964. Billy working on the family farm and Marcy as a homemaker. The couple then moved to Mahnomen to the home where Marcy currently lived.  In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she also provided in home daycare for over 40+ years.  During that time, she was like a second mother to hundreds of children. The joke was that "Marcy raised half of Mahnomen". Her hands were never idle. She was also a seamstress and did alterations for many in the community. In 2000, Marcy began to sew baby carrier covers, first for her grandkids and then for friends. Over a course of 10 years, she sold over 2,000 covers through EBay and craft sales. It was only when her eyesight declined that she was no longer able to continue making them. Billy died in 2011, and Marcy continued to live in the same home, helping her daughter, Sheila.

Marcy loved to dance and was very spunky and vivacious. Marcy and Billy loved working at the dances at the Flowing Well until the mid 1970's. She waitressed and Billy worked security. They were both excellent dancers and whenever the "Blue Skirt Waltz" was played, Marcy and Billy would be out on the floor dancing. Even in her later years, she would do a little shimmy when she heard her favorite song come on. Marcy enjoyed gardening and bowling and was in a bowling league in Mahnomen in the 1980's. When the kids were young, the family spent hours on the pontoon fishing at Roy Lake, which are family memories they will always treasure. She was an avid supporter of Mahnomen High School Football and an excellent hunter. Every deer hunting season, Marcy would be put on post, and rarely ever missed. She also enjoyed time spent playing cards, especially cribbage, pinochle and whist and she loved the week spent every summer at South Twin with her family. Marcy was a life-long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a member of Christian Mother's, helping every fall with the annual church dinner and bazaar and was an excellent raffle ticket salesperson.

Marcy is survived by two sons, Michael (Debbe) Busse of Addison, IL, and Brian (Christy) Busse of Breckenridge, MN; two daughters, Gloria (Randy) Winkler of Fosston, MN, and Sheila (Rick) Clark, Jr. of Mahnomen;  13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Sandy) Blaser of Andover, MN; sister, Loretta Meyers of Detroit Lakes, MN; brother-in law, Jim (Diane) Busse of Mahnomen; sisters-in-law: Sue (Dick) Buche of Hackensack, MN, Pat (Duey) Spaeth of Mahnomen, and Christy Olson of Akeley, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill.
