Mabel Jacobson Hassel, age 89, of Twin Valley, MN, died Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, MN.
Mabel Gullingsrud was born September 17, 1925, the daughter of Theodore and Olena (Halland) Gullingsrud in Gary, MN. As a young child, she was lovingly raised by her aunt and uncle, Ole & Stena Gullingsrud, and graduated from Gary High School. On October 21, 1944, Mabel married Carl Jacobson and they made their home in the Gary area. Carl and Mabel owned a construction company working side by side driving trucks, operating machinery, and farming. They were blessed with five children. Carl died in 1972 and a few years later Mabel was united in marriage to Milo Hassel. They moved to a farm near Itasca State Park where they lived until Milo's health started to decline, at which time they relocated to Detroit Lakes, MN. Milo passed away in 1983 and Mabel continued to make her home in Detroit Lakes, until 2010 when she moved in with her daughter, Juanita. A few years ago she entered the Twin Valley Living Center where she has lived since.
Mabel was a hard worker and was most happy being outside. She loved animals, especially horses and enjoyed working in the yard. Although she never flew in an airplane, Mabel loved to travel. She loved to entertain with the music group "The Ding-A-Lings." In later years, Mabel enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards and working puzzles.
