Lynn A. Thompson, age 74, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at home.
Lynn Arden was born October 4, 1941, in Mahnomen to Lester and Luella (Nelson) Thompson. He grew up on a farm east of Mahnomen, attended school in Bejou, MN, and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1959. Following graduation, Lynn began farming with his father and also attended automotive classes at the tech school in Thief River Falls. On November 25, 1967, Lynn was united in marriage to Betty Zurn in Callaway, MN. The couple made their home on the farm and was blessed with three children. Over the years, Lynn continued to farm and he also worked at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston, MN, during the winters. He retired in the early 2000's and rented out his land until his son, Michael, began farming it.
Lynn was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bejou and loyally attended the Father Son Banquet each year. He was a total outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, tractor pulls and giving his grandkids 4-wheeler and tractor rides. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. In his younger years, Lynn raced snowmobiles for Arctic Cat. He also enjoyed playing Bingo, his morning coffee with the guys, playing cards and leaving extra early with Dean to get to deer camp! Lynn held memberships with the Mahnomen Rod and Gun Club, Bejou Roughriders Snowmobile Club, Bejou Lions, Gregory Township Board and the church council.
Lynn is survived by his children: Michael (Camillia) Thompson, Bejou, Lucie Thompson, Clearbrook, MN, and David (Nicole) Thompson, Stephen, MN; six grandchildren: Trevor, Jakson, Noah, Gunner, Griffin and Decker; one great-granddaughter, Charolett; one sister, LouAnn (Mervin) Sirjord, Bejou; one aunt, Norma Nefzger, Hibbing, MN, one uncle, Gilman Nelson, Gary, brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard (Judy) Zurn, Detroit Lakes, MN, Gordon (Joanne) Zurn, Waubun, MN; Shirley (Pete) Newell-Jackson, Pasco, WA, Donna Adams, Mesa, AZ, Ruth (Robert) Atwell, Wytheville, VA, Mary (Karl) Schnathorst, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Linda (Gene) Walz, Audubon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Hayden; two nephews, Gary and Dale; and great-nephew, Joshua; six brothers-in-law: Clarence, Vernie, Ambrose and Raymond Zurn, Donald Adams and Jim Newell.
Memorial Mass was held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. Time of Gathering was at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Friday, August 12, 2016, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service and Rosary at 6:30 pm. Inurnment was at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Mahnomen.
