Lyle E.
Warren
Aug 27, 1933 — Mar 22, 2018
Ogema
Lyle Warren, age 84, of Ogema, MN, died Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Lyle Everett Warren was born to John James and Isabelle (Belcourt) Warren on August 27, 1933, in White Earth, MN. As a child, Lyle attended St. Benedict's Catholic School. He furthered his education at Waubun High School where he lettered in football. The Korean War broke out in 1950 and Lyle enlisted in the US Army. Basic training took place in Ft. Jackson, SC, and specialized training in Huachuca, AZ. Upon his deployment to Korea, Lyle's work entailed establishing US air fields and other assigned responsibilities, which earned him an honorable discharge.
In Kenosha, WS, Lyle found work assembling automotives for American Motors Corporation. When he moved back home to White Earth, Lyle met the love of his life, Wallis Ann Goodwin. The couple was united in marriage in 1958.
It was between 1960-1968 that they started raising their family of eight children while both were employed at Wahpeton Indian School. Lyle had the honor of serving as a troop leader for the school's Boy Scouts. Around 1969, the Warren family relocated to White Earth. Lyle attended technical college in Wadena, MN, and mastered plumbing. Another accomplishment was working in Indian Action teaching his plumbing skills to the students of the reservation. For 17 years, Lyle had a fulfilling career at Snappy Distribution in Detroit Lakes, MN. Co-workers enjoyed him and his work ethic. 1996 brought retirement for Lyle at the age of 62.
A great storyteller, Lyle always spoke with humor and enthusiasm. He also had a green thumb. You could often find he and Wally on road trips, family gatherings, at church or the casino, where Lyle would have a few beers while Wally Ann played Texas Hold 'em. Family and faith were an important part of Lyle's livelihood. He was a caring and loving husband, dad and grandpa and many years were spent enjoying and helping to raise his grandchildren. Lyle was a devoted member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, White Earth and the Kateri Circle. He will be missed by many.
Lyle is survived by his children: Anthony Warren, Lyle Warren, Jr., Carol (Terry) Tibbetts, Patrick (Kim) Warren, Joan Warren, Christopher Warren, Timothy Warren and Betsy (Aaron Pivec) Warren; his brothers: Russell, Stanley (Ginny) Joe (Sharon) and Ron; his sister, Kathy Hummingbird; 25 grandchildren, which included his granddaughter, Jade Jackson, who he raised as one of his own; 17 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and Wally Ann's large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, grandchildren, Franklin Brown and Nicollete Brown and one great-grandchild, Raymond James Johnson, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in White Earth, MN. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. and one-hour prior to the service at the church.
