Lyle Syverson, age 78, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Lyle Vernon Syverson was born October 1st, 1931, the son of Selmer and Cora (Morken) Syverson at Ulen. He was raised on a farm east of Ulen and was baptized and confirmed his faith at Atlanta Lutheran Church near Ulen. Lyle attended country school and later high school in Ulen. On January 26, 1952, Lyle was united in marriage to Levina Matson at Jevnaker Lutheran Church near Bourp, Minnesota. Lyle worked for 17 years for a farmer near Moorhead, Minnesota. The couple lived in the Moorhead and Sabin area until 1968. At that time they purchased a farm north of Ulen where they operated a dairy and grain farm for several years. Levina died September 4, 1995 and shortly after, Lyle retired from active farming. On November 20, 2000, Lyle was united in marriage to Lois Klemetson. Lyle and Lois made their home on his farm for the past 10 years.

Lyle's favorite past times included woodworking, yard work, gardening, hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and he had a special love of working with horses. He had a passion for maintaining their beautiful farmyard and trails in the woods on the farm.

Lyle was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he had served on the council and over the years was also on the Ulen Elevator board, the Co-op board and the Ulen township board.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Lois, of Ulen, MN; son, Kim (Lisa) of Ulen, MN; daughters, Vicki (Mark) Haugen of Hawley, MN and Julie Ashmore of Denver, CO; step-sons, Dean (Dianne) Klemetson of Hitterdal, MN David (Sherry) Klemetson of Moorhead, MN, Daniel Klemetson (Shari) of Lake Park, MN and Darrell Klemetson (Pamela) of Ulen, MN; step-daughter, Diane (Larry) Blakeway of Hawley; brothers, Marlyn (Mary Lou) of Flom, MN, Waldo (Diane) of Hitterdal, MN, Selmer Allan (Alice) of Kenyon, MN; sisters, Vivian Beske of Fairbault, MN, Eileen Cary of Dilworth, MN, Orrine (Lowell) Ellefson of Twin Valley, MN, Carla (Larry) Forsythe of Detroit Lakes, MN, Fern (Jim) Saatoff of Ball Club, MN ; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Levina; sister, Chrystella Townsend, and brother, Oren

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 22nd from 5PM to 7PM with a Prayer Service at 7PM all in the church. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Dahl with Carol Lockhart serving as organist and Steve Lunde serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Kenny Beske, Larry Blakeway, Neil Cary, Kenny Matson, Barth Syverson and Kelly Syverson. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Christianson, Dean Klemetson, Dave Klemetson, Dan Klemetson, Darrell Klemetson, Arley Klemetson, Dick Smith, Bruce Tinjum and all of Lyle's grandchildren.

Interment will be in North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
