Lyle Strom, 73, of Ada, MN, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in his home with his family by his side under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Lyle Joseph Strom was born Jan. 3, 1937, in Hillsboro, ND, the son of Joseph and Marian (Smith) Strom. He attended country school in Clifford and Alvarado Township schools near Hillsboro. He was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. In 1953, Lyle moved with his family to Ada, where they farmed. He continued his education in Fargo and later graduated from Detroit Lakes (MN) AVTI in Auto Body. Lyle was united in marriage to Geraldine Rawley on February 3, 1961, in Moorhead. He had worked in Rockford, IL, for some time, but returned home to help out on the farm when his father suffered a stroke. He earned a living working for the Minnesota State Dept. of Transportation. He retired in 1997, after 30 years with MNDOT.

Lyle always had a strong work ethic and was someone that could be depended on. He was a tremendous help to his parents as they got older. Lyle always loved to joke around, and help family and friends. He really enjoyed the dogs he raised over his lifetime, old Western movies, playing cards, going to the casino, fishing and hunting with his friends, a good meal of walleye or steak and potatoes. He also enjoyed collecting guns, coins, and knives, and having coffee with "The guys" each morning. He was a real "Jeans and sweatshirt" kind of guy! He also was the kind of guy that had to be early, and usually a half hour early!

Lyle is survived by Geraldine Strom, of Ada, sons, Rod (Beth) Strom, Fergus Falls, MN, Michael (Mindy) Strom of Sartell, MN, daughters, Virginia (Kelly) Brandt and Cheryl Strom, both of Ada, one sister, Jean Hesby, Mt. Lake Terrace, WA, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him

Memorial Service: 2:00pm, Monday, January 3, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
