Lyle Moteberg, age 71, of Twin Valley, MN, formerly Grandin, ND died Friday, February 1, 2013 in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Lyle Moteberg was born January 21, 1942 the son of Gilbert and Lily (Garden) Moteberg in Fertile, MN. He was raised on a farm northeast of Gary, MN in the Bear Park community and attended country school near there. Lyle then attended Gary High School, graduating with the class of 1960. As a young man, Lyle entered the United States Navy where he worked as a mechanic on helicopters on board the USS Yorktown throughout the Pacific. On July 6, 1963 Lyle was united in marriage to Shirley Jacobson at Sundal Lutheran Church near Fertile, MN. The couple made their home in Chula Vista, CA for a year until he completed his military service. After Lyle's discharge in 1964, they returned to the Fertile community and Lyle was employed at Stuhaug Repair in Fertile for a time. He then became employed for the Farmers Union Co-op in Beltrami, MN for the next 10 years. They then moved to Grandin, ND where he was manager of the Gardner Co-op for 10 years. The next 10 years Lyle was employed as a mechanic at the Grandin Co-op and the following 11 years were spent working at Agway sunflower elevator in Grandin. Lyle retired in 2008. After his retirement they moved to Twin Valley, where they have continued to make their home.
Lyle was an active member of the Gary American Legion, Western Minnesota Steam Threshers in Rollag, MN and the National Rifle Association. His favorite pastimes included going to auctions, coin collecting, and going to the Rollag Steam Threshers Reunion. He also enjoyed music, tinkering in his shop and black powder hunting.
Lyle is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Shirley of Twin Valley, MN; daughters, Sue Moteberg of Barney, ND and Leah (Keith) King of Bowman, ND; a son, Evan (Dawn) Moteberg of Fallon, NV; grandchildren: Brandon Moteberg, Callie King, Cody Moteberg, Grant King and Cora Moteberg,; a brother, Myron (Shelly) Moteberg of Ada, MN; sisters; Geraldine Tekavec of Coon Rapids, MN, Francis Fox of Nashville, TN, Joyce (Al) Krogh of St. Louis Park, MN and JoAnn Knowlton of Minneapolis, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Gilbert, his twin, and Raymond and a sister, Shirley Koepke.
Visitation was Sunday, February 3rd from 2-4 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Funeral Services were held Monday, February 4th at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Burial was in the Twin Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
